Abstract

ABSTRACT Afkarina, Diana 2024. An Analysis code mixing by Maudy Ayunda in Cinta Laura Podcast (2023). Unpublished Thesis, English Literature Department, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Abdurachman Saleh Situbondo. Advisors: Dwi Taurina Mila Wardhani, M.Pd. and Rahajeng Hauwwa Khissoga, S.S., M.Hum. Keyword: Bilinguals, Code Mixing, Podcast. Bilinguals are people who can speak two or three languages well. Code mixing happens when they use words or phrases from both languages in the conversation or sentence. This study aims to find out what types of code mixing are used and explain why they are used, focusing on Maudy Ayunda's speech. The researcher used a qualitative approach to analyze data from the "Cinta Laura" podcast. To identify the types of code mixing, they used Muysken's (2000) theory. To understand the functions of the code mixing, they referred to Mckay and Nancy's (1996) theory. For data analysis, they used Spradley's methods, which include domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis Based on the analysis, it was found that there were 147 data of code mixing divided into three types used by Maudy Ayunda. The most dominant type was alternation (78 data), followed by insertion (68 data), and congruent lexicalization (1 data). The study also showed that the most dominant function used was the socioexpressive function, which conveys social identity or emotions, with 95 data. This was followed by the stylistic function, which was used to create a style or emphasize certain points in the conversation, with 41 data. The least frequent function was the important sociocultural and textual function, with 11 data, used for significant cultural or textual reasons. From Maudy Ayunda's speech on the "Cinta Laura" podcast, it was observed that she frequently used the alternation type of code mixing and the socioexpressive function.
