Abstract

This research aims to explore and analyze legal protection for wives who are victims of domestic violence (KDRT) based on Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence. Apart from that, this research also aims to assess the various challenges faced in providing legal protection to the wives of domestic violence victims. This research is included in the category of normative legal research. The research results show that legal protection for wives of domestic violence victims according to the law is carried out through two approaches: preventive and repressive. To prevent domestic violence, preventive steps that can be taken include strengthening social relations, understanding local cultural values, implementing religious teachings, and improving the family's economic conditions. Meanwhile, repressive legal protection is carried out by providing temporary protection and protection determined by court decisions. Research also reveals that there are obstacles in legal protection for wives of domestic violence victims. These obstacles include the inability of law enforcement officials to provide adequate protection and assistance. Victims often experience difficulties in accessing legal protection and assistance due to limited infrastructure and a lack of adequate facilities for units handling women and children who are victims of violence.
