Abstract
This study aims to identify the types of metaphors and their meanings in the songs from Jungkook's album Golden. The songs analyzed include: ‘3D’, ‘Seven - Explicit Ver’, ‘Yes or No’, ‘Please Don't Change’, ‘Somebody’, ‘Shot Glass of Tears’, ‘Closer to You’, ‘Standing Next to You’, ‘Hate You’, ‘Too Sad to Dance’. The research employs a qualitative methodology. To classify the types of metaphors, the study utilizes I.A. Richards' theory (1936), and to interpret their meanings, it draws on the theories of Wittgenstein and Russell (2002). The research aims to describe the types of metaphors and their meanings in Jeon Jungkook's lyrics. The study identified a total of ninety data, comprising fifty-six living metaphors and thirty-four dead metaphors. Living metaphors were found to be more prevalent, with dead metaphors occurring less frequently. The meanings discovered are aligned with the types of metaphors identified. In a living metaphor, it is difficult for researchers to find meaning because new words often emerge, requiring more in-depth research to understand their meaning. On the other hand, the meaning in a dead metaphor is easier to convey because the repeated use of metaphorical phrases helps researchers find meaning in this type.
