Abstract
This study analyzes the speech acts of several main characters in Lie to Me in revealing the truth of information. This film is a series of films in each episode, the main character reveals the truth of the lies made by the examinee. This research is a pragmatic study research. The analysis of this research was conducted by investigating the utterances made by several characters and some scenes that appeared when the characters revealed their lies. The theory used to analyze the data in this study is pragmatic theory and speech acts that focus on the context of the speech situation. The investigative expression data obtained are categorized based on Searle's speech act theory. This research is a qualitative descriptive study and is expected to produce in-depth descriptions of investigative speech acts that are used to reveal the truth. The taxonomic analysis of spreadly is used to classify data based on the type of speech act spoken as well as the level of credibility of the cast towards the statement being examined. Componential analysis is used to determine the interrelationships between variables. Finally, this study found two types of effective speech acts to be used in revealing the truth based on cases contained in the Lie to Me film, namely assertive speech acts and directive speech acts. Assertive speech acts use sentence for m statements and questions, while directive speech acts use command sentence forms.
